Le groupe en ligne, ConstitutionDAO, a échoué dans son offre d’acheter la dernière copie imprimée de la 1ère édition de la Constitution américaine aux enchères publiques chez Sotheby’s jeudi.
« L’édition officielle de la Constitution des États-Unis » a plutôt été remportée par un enchérisseur inconnu pour 43,2 millions de dollars, ce qui signifie que le DAO a échoué dans sa tentative historique de la mettre « entre les mains du peuple ».
La nouvelle a éclaté dans une annonce sur le Discord officiel. « Bien que ce ne soit pas le résultat que nous espérions, nous sommes quand même entrés dans l’histoire ce soir », lit-on dans le message.
Cet exemplaire spécifique est l’un des treize exemplaires de l’édition officielle de la Constitution de la Convention constitutionnelle. Il a été acheté pour la première fois à Sotheby’s par le regretté promoteur immobilier S. Howard Goldman en 1988 pour 165 000 $. Sa veuve Dorothy Goldman l’a mis en vente cette année et a décidé que les bénéfices iront à la Dorothy Tapper Goldman Foundation.
Les participants au projet ont commencé à se regrouper il y a à peine une semaine en tant qu’organisation autonome décentralisée, ou DAO, pour mettre en commun des fonds pour la vente aux enchères. Dans les heures qui ont précédé la vente, ConstitutionDAO avait collecté plus de 49 millions de dollars en dons Ethereum collectés via Juicebox, une plate-forme pour les projets communautaires basés sur Ethereum.
La vente aux enchères a été diffusée en direct.
En échange de dons, les 17 437 contributeurs ont reçu des jetons de gouvernance appelés PEOPLE. Ceux-ci ne fournissent pas une propriété fractionnée, mais donnent plutôt aux propriétaires de jetons la possibilité de voter sur des propositions concernant la structure, la gouvernance et la direction opérationnelle.
Les participants pourront désormais se faire rembourser leur contribution via Juicebox.
